The AGSM Consulting Club

Management Consulting has always been a popular career choice for AGSM MBAs and this year is no different. Some of our members are exploring a career in Consulting, some of them have already worked in management consulting firms pre-MBA while some others are focused on leveraging the AGSM MBA to embark on a management consulting career. The Club leadership is committed to serving the varied needs of its membership. In close partnership with the Career Services office, we also strive to provide our members with a competitive advantage in the rigorous recruitment process by way of the following activities throughout the year:

.

Alumni Roundtable Discussions

Alumni from leading consulting firms answer all questions related to the Consulting industry. This moderated roundtable discussion followed by a cocktail reception facilitates individual networking and provides members with copius insights into the consulting industry which ultimately helps them make informed career decisions.

.

‘Day-In-The-Life’ Speaker Series

In these interactive sessions, the Club hosts alumni and senior partners from leading consulting firms who share their work experiences and thus provide insights to the club membership regarding roles, career paths and work-life balance in the Consulting industry.

.

Consulting Firm Information Presentations

Various management consulting firms visit campus and deliver information presentations. Typically a presentation is followed by an informal networking sessions where firms discuss industry topics with Club members and answer their specific queries.

.

‘Nail-The-Case’ Coaching Workshops With Industry Experts

Typically when our members begin case practice within smaller teams they would like feedback on the quality of their discussions. The club hosts external industry experts who have worked for years in the industry to coach the membership and reinforce our collective case cracking skills.

.

Online Case Library

Visiting alumni and firms emphasise the importance of practice for succeeding with the rigourous case interview process. Hence, in the ‘Resources’ section of this website, we have consolidated AGSM’s own propreitary compendium for case interview practice along with a large number of external case books into an electronic case library. You will need AGSM Common Room access to download and use the material made available.

.

Formation Of Case Practice Groups

The Club Cabinet encourages and facilitates the formation of three member case practice groups. Complemented by the various workshops on campus, firm visits and the case library, members practice to develop their case interviewing skills

.

Consulting Firm Case Workshops

Leading consulting firms invite all Consulting Club members to their Sydney offices (an exclusive privilege available to our school on account of our small class size) and share their knowledge to coach us in the case interview method. The format for such workshops is generally a presentation followed by breakout groups for case discussions which are led by professionals. Such visits provide a great opportunity to develop our knowledge about the firm’s culture and its people.

.

‘Drop-In’ Lunch Hour Case Sessions

These moderated case practice sessions at AGSM introduce club membership to important analytical frameworks and provide a ‘learn-by-doing’ opportunity to develop their case interviewing skills.

.

Case Competitions

These sponsored case competitions are another opportunity for club membership to practise their case analysis skills. With limited time to prepare, teams analyze and evaluate business cases using the knowledge and experience they have acquired from the AGSM MBA curriculum. Their goal is to provide original recommendations and give strong presentations to the panel of judges.

.

One-On-One Mock Interviews

By the end of the second session, in the run-up to ‘Careers Week’, the Consulting Club facilitates mock case interviews for all its members. These interviews are conducted by external experts and the Career Services office.

.

Career Services Workshops

Club membership also benefits from the regular Career service workshops that cover resume and cover letter writing skills, interview preparation methodologies and networking skills.
